Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif Praises President Trump for Stopping India-Pakistan War, Nominates Him for Nobel Peace Prize
At the Sharm el-Sheikh Peace Summit in Egypt on October 13, 2025, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif delivered a notable speech endorsing US President Donald Trump's claim of mediating peace between nuclear-armed rivals India and Pakistan. Sharif lauded Trump as a "man of peace" who played a crucial role in preventing a possible nuclear conflict and brokered a ceasefire that brought stability to the tense region.
Prime Minister Sharif solemnly addressed world leaders gathered to discuss the post-war future of Gaza, highlighting Trump's “untiring efforts” over several months to foster peace and prosperity globally. Sharif said, "Today is one of the greatest days in contemporary history because peace has been achieved after untiring efforts led by President Trump, who is genuinely a man of peace."
In a strong endorsement, Sharif formally nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, citing his extraordinary contributions in first stopping the India-Pakistan war and then facilitating peace agreements in other conflict zones, including the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. "Pakistan has nominated President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for this extraordinary effort," Sharif declared.
Sharif credited Trump for preventing the escalation of the May 2025 India-Pakistan conflict triggered by Operation Sindoor, an Indian retaliation to terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam region. "Had it not been for this gentleman, the war could have escalated to a level where no one would have lived to tell what happened," Sharif warned, emphasizing the nuclear capabilities of both countries.
The speech occurred immediately after Trump invited Sharif on stage during his address and asked him to reiterate his praise. Trump also praised Pakistan’s Army Chief Gen Asim Munir as his “favorite Field Marshal” and complimented Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling him a "very good friend" who has done a "fantastic job." Trump expressed hope that India and Pakistan "are going to live very nicely together."
Sharif’s endorsement of Trump’s peace efforts was echoed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israel's parliament, who also nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for brokering the Middle East ceasefire deal and releasing hostages in Gaza.
Pakistan's endorsement contrasts with India's official stance that the ceasefire understanding was achieved through direct talks between military officials without third-party mediation. Nevertheless, Sharif's public praise and multiple nominations for the Peace Prize illustrate Islamabad's recognition of Trump's mediation efforts on the global stage.
Sharif concluded his speech by blessing Trump, "God bless you. God give you long life to serve like this for all time to come," underscoring the significance he attributes to Trump's role in global peace efforts.
This high-profile interaction at the Gaza summit places Trump once again in the spotlight as a key figure claiming success in mediating peace across several conflict zones, notably highlighting the delicate India-Pakistan relationship.
