Kerala State Film Awards 2024 Jury Announcement

Actor and filmmaker Prakash Raj has been appointed the Chairperson of the Jury for the prestigious Kerala State Film Awards 2024. This announcement has generated excitement as the awards celebrate the best of Malayalam cinema each year. Prakash Raj joins a distinguished panel comprising industry experts and artists to select the winners from 128 films submitted for consideration.

Jury Composition and Screening Process

To ensure a thorough and fair evaluation, the jury process is divided into two stages:

  • Preliminary Juries: Two panels are formed to screen and shortlist films for the final evaluation.

    • The first panel is chaired by filmmaker Ranjan Pramod and includes M. C. Rajanarayanan, Subal K. R., and Vijayarajamallika.

    • The second panel is chaired by filmmaker Jibu Jacob, with members V. C. Abhilash, Rajesh K., and Dr. Shamshad Hussain.

Both chairpersons of the preliminary juries, Ranjan Pramod and Jibu Jacob, will also participate in the final jury alongside Prakash Raj and other members, ensuring continuity and consistency throughout the selection process.

Writing Category Jury

Recognizing the importance of screenplay and literary contributions to cinema, a separate Writing Category Jury has been constituted. This jury is chaired by Madhu Iravankara, a renowned film critic, documentary filmmaker, and National Award winner. The other members are A. Chandrasekhar and Dr. Vineetha Vijayan. Their role is to evaluate the writing aspects of the films submitted.

Award Administration and Historical Context

The Kerala State Film Awards were instituted in 1969 by the Department of Cultural Affairs. Since 1998, the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy has been administering the awards, ensuring a structured and credible process. Secretary of the Academy, C. Ajoy, will serve as the Member Secretary for all jury panels, overseeing administrative and procedural functions to maintain the awards' integrity.

Screening Timeline

Film screenings for the jury are scheduled to commence from October 6, 2025. The substantial number of 128 films submitted this year underscores the vibrant Malayalam film industry and the keen competition expected in various categories.

The Kerala State Film Awards continue to be a celebrated platform recognizing cinematic excellence, honoring artists, filmmakers, writers, and technicians who contribute to the rich cultural tapestry of Kerala cinema.

This year’s award selection, guided by a diverse and experienced jury under the leadership of Prakash Raj, promises to highlight outstanding achievements and set new benchmarks in Malayalam filmmaking.
