RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav Admitted to AIIMS Delhi for Medical Treatment

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president and former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi on April 2, 2025, for medical treatment after his health condition deteriorated during a brief hospitalization in Patna. At 76 years old, Lalu Prasad Yadav has been battling multiple health challenges, including diabetes, heart surgery history, and a kidney transplant.

Lalu Yadav was initially scheduled to travel to Delhi by flight for better medical care, accompanied by his wife Rabri Devi. However, during his journey, he experienced a sudden drop in blood pressure which necessitated immediate admission to Paras Hospital in Patna. After receiving intravenous therapy, his condition stabilized, and he decided to continue his travel by a regular commercial flight rather than an air ambulance.

Upon arrival at AIIMS Delhi around 9:35 PM, Lalu was admitted to the Cardio Critical Care Unit of the Cardio-Neuro Centre. He is under the supervision of a team of doctors led by Dr. Rakesh Yadav, a renowned professor of cardiology. The treatment focus includes addressing sores developed on his back and arm, which were a cause for concern in Patna and required specialized care available at AIIMS.

Tejashwi Yadav, Lalu Prasad Yadav's son and the Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, has assured the public about his father’s courage and fighting spirit, despite his advanced age and serious health issues. Tejashwi and other family members have been closely monitoring the situation and accompanying him throughout the treatment journey.

Lalu Prasad Yadav has been a prominent figure in Bihar politics and Indian politics at large, with a long history of leadership and political service. He has faced legal challenges, including convictions in fodder scam cases, but his health has been a pressing concern for his supporters and family in recent years.

This latest hospitalization underscores the ongoing health struggles faced by the veteran leader, and many are hopeful for his recovery under the expert care at AIIMS.
